The unit converts SDI to HDMI and HDMI to SDI simultaneously, even when the connected formats differ, which provides exceptional flexibility during multi format productions where equipment from different generations must work together. The converter supports a wide range of SDI and HDMI standards including SD, HD and 3G SDI, with automatic detection simplifying setup. It handles frame rates from 720p50 through 1080p60 as well as interlaced, progressive and PsF formats. Support for 2K DCI frame sizes allows integration into digital cinema camera workflows. A built in reclocking system stabilizes SDI signals to minimize jitter and maintain signal integrity during long cable runs or within complex routing systems. HDMI inputs and outputs support equivalent high definition formats and maintain 4:2:2 YUV color precision across the chain. It is important to note that HDMI capture of copy protected sources is not supported, which aligns with industry standards.

A defining feature is its support for camera control protocol conversion. This allows Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras to be controlled from SDI based live production switchers, providing tally, iris and other remote adjustments. This integration enhances professional workflows that depend on centralized control of multiple cameras. The device is powered via USB C, making it easy to run from common power sources including monitors, laptops or USB based distribution systems.
